Have you had your Audi timing belt replaced? The timing belt in your car is a very important component in the function of your engine. It keeps the crankshaft (the part of the engine that converts the power from the combustion to rotary power) in time with the camshaft (forgive me here, it gets a little technical: The camshaft opens and closes the intake valves, for letting in the air fuel mixture, and the exhaust valves, that let the burnt air/fuel mix out of the combustion chamber at just the right time. There is a very good article on howstuffworks.com here:

If your timing belt breaks this 'valve timing' goes out of sync, and the pistons smash into valves which seriously damages the valves. To repair this mess the cylinder head (or heads) will have to be removed and repaired. This is major surgery and very expensive.
Your Audi service book recommends to replace your belt every 105,000 miles. I believe this interval is too long. I have seen far to many cars come in with broken belts long before that time. I recommend replacing the belt every 80,000 miles.
